Most corruption stories start with a good girl. Quiet, well-raised, untouched by the world the story is about to drop her into. The arc is the slow erosion of all that - a fall measured in firsts, in transgressions, in the gap between who she was and who she's becoming. Suzie isn't one of those stories. She arrives in the City already having lived a life. She's had lovers she was embarrassed by and a few she wasn't. She's cynical about families because she came from one that earned the cynicism.
